Over the years the population relied on mining and metal working as well as farming for its employment, however as these industries have died out, the economy now relies on tourism and shopping. Despite being quite small, it has many shops from a supermarket to craft and antique shops. As a result of the drop in employment in industry, the population has fallen from around 7000 to 2000.

During the summer, this can make for difficult camping if you should be running a little late. By summers’ end, though, campgrounds are deserted and closed. This is a prime time to extend your camping time by renting a cabin for a weekend or just a few days getaway.
